The Epiphany School of Global Studies – “Love in Action”

The high school Seniors of The Epiphany School of Global Studies began their 3 week Love in Action service on Monday, May 9, 2022 Projects include: assisting with the Teaching Kitchen renovation project, processing food pantry donations, cleaning and organizing the facility, digging a trench for drainage, and raising new flags on the flagpole on the front campus. Jones County Commissioners Celebrate Good News from the Filling Station

Jones County Commissioners celebrate the good news from the Governor’s Office and N.C. Commission on Community Service and Volunteerism. On Tuesday, April 19th, Mary Ann LeRay, Executive Director of The Filling Station, made a presentation to the Jones County Commissioners to seek grant support for “transporting healthy foods”. The commissioners unanimously voted to approve a $5000 grant to The Filling Station. In addition, the good news was shared that The Food Pantry Volunteer Group is one of the 22 Governor Medallion Award winners in the State of NC. This is the highest volunteer honor in the state. The Filling Station Receives a Gift from a Durham-based Construction Company

International Paper Donation

Thank you to International Paper’s New Bern Mill for donating $500 to The Filling Station front lawn beautification and access project. Spring and Summer are here. Neuse River Bridge Run A Huge Success for Area Non Profits

After 2 years of “running virtual”, the Neuse River Bridge Run committee rolled out a wildly successful event on April 8-9, 2022 in New Bern, NC. The committee represents seven non profit agencies from Craven and Jones Counties. This was the 1st in person event for The Filling Station who was invited to join in 2021. The committee met by Zoom every other week for one year to discuss the sponsorships, volunteers, media/marketing, and logistics to deliver a professional event to the area. “We are a sanctioned race which attracts many runners from N.C and other states”, says Gary Kenefick,

Food Pantry Volunteers Receive 2022 Governor’s Medallion Award

Today was a special day at The Filling Station. The Food Pantry Volunteers were invited to meet in the Board Room to hear a special announcement and have a celebration cake. Thank you to Board Members Maria Robles, John Bender, Clyde Murphy, Willie Smith who attended today’s event. Thank you to Bob and Carol Mattocks who brought punch and cake for the special occasion. 2020-2021 County Profile for Jones County, NC from Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC

As of 2019, Feeding America reported Jones County, NC had a food insecurity rate of 18.1% of the county population. In the 2020-2021 report from the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC, it was reported that the percentage has increased to 25%. The Filling Station is among the Top Agencies in the county assisting with filling unmet needs in the areas of Nutrition, Education, and Connection.
